Care guide · Crystals
In crystal traditions, crystals are cleansed to clear absorbed energy and recharged to restore it. The simplest method for almost every stone is a selenite charging plate.
Methods at a glance
| Method | How | Avoid for |
|---|---|---|
| Selenite plate | Rest crystals on the plate overnight | Safe for nearly all stones |
| Moonlight | Leave outdoors or on a windowsill overnight, especially at full moon | Safe for nearly all stones |
| Sunlight | A short time in morning sun | Amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, fluorite (fading) |
| Water | Brief rinse in clean water | Selenite, pyrite, hematite, malachite, turquoise, lapis |
| Smoke | Pass through incense or sage smoke | Safe for most stones |
| Sound | Ring a bell or singing bowl nearby | Safe for all stones |
Why selenite?
Selenite is traditionally said to cleanse itself and anything placed on it, without water or sunlight. Keep it dry: it dissolves slowly in water.

Many people recharge daily-wear bracelets once a week, and after a stressful day or when the bracelet feels “heavy”.
Setting an intention
After cleansing, hold the crystal, take a few calm breaths and state what you want it to support, such as focus, protection or abundance.
Gemstone rings
Astrological gemstones are traditionally purified in raw milk and Ganga jal with the planet's mantra; see each stone's guide, for example Neelam or Pukhraj.
