Burmese sapphire

Burma (Myanmar) is famous for rich, saturated colour. Burmese sapphires are available in smaller quantities and are priced at the premium end.

Thailand-origin sapphire

Thailand is a major source and trading centre for sapphire, and Thailand-origin stones are the most affordable way to wear Neelam or Pukhraj. At G for Gemstones we list them clearly as “Thailand origin” and supply a certificate.

What should I check before buying?

  • Carat weight on the certificate, matching the listing
  • Identification: the certificate should identify the stone as sapphire (corundum), not glass or a synthetic
  • Comments on treatment: many sapphires worldwide are heat treated to improve colour; labs may note this
  • Photos and video of the exact stone
