What is coral?

Coral is an organic gem formed from the skeletons of tiny marine animals. Precious red coral from the Mediterranean, often called Italian coral, has long been the most prized for astrology. All the coral we currently stock is Italian.

Colour

Astrologers usually prefer an even, deep orange-red to blood-red colour without cracks or holes.

Triangle or oval?

Both shapes are traditional. The triangle cut is closely associated with Mangal, while the oval suits everyday wear. Choose the one you like.

How much should it weigh?

Most adults choose 5–9 carats, often guided by about 1 ratti per 10 kg of body weight. See the carat to ratti guide.

3. Finger: ring finger of your working hand

Care

Coral is soft (3–4 Mohs) and sensitive to acids and heat. Keep it away from perfume and chemicals; wipe with a soft damp cloth.
